Find & Replace Tool
The Find & Replace tool searches and replaces text across your text layers' source text. It works on any text layer within the chosen scope, not just layers indexed in AE Sheets, so it's a fast way to fix a recurring typo, swap a product name, or update wording everywhere at once.
How to use
- In the Rigging Panel, click Find & Replace to open the dialog.
- Choose a Scope to define where the search should look (see below).
- Enter your Find and Replace text.
- Click Find to count how many matches exist in the current scope.
- Click Replace to change the current match, or Replace All to change every occurrence at once.
- The match count updates after each replacement, so you can watch it drop to zero.
Scope Options
Choose which layers to search:
- Project: searches all text layers across every composition in the project.
- Active Comp & Pre-comps: searches the currently open composition and, recursively, all of its nested pre-compositions.
- Selected Layers: searches only the text layers currently selected in the timeline.
- Selected Comps in Project Panel: searches the compositions highlighted in the Project Panel, including their nested pre-comps.
Options
- Case Sensitive: when enabled, matches must have the same uppercase and lowercase letters as your search term. Off by default, so
Helloalso matcheshello.
Good to know
- The entire replace operation is a single undo step. Press Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (Mac) to revert all changes at once.
- Shared pre-comps are only processed once. If the same pre-comp appears several times in a composition, its layers won't be double-counted or double-replaced.
