AI Configuration

AE Sheets connects to Google Gemini or OpenAI to provide automatic translations. You must provide your own API key to use these features.

Google Gemini​

  1. Get your API key from Google AI Studio.
  2. Paste it into the Google Translate API Key field in the Settings Panel.
  3. Click Test to verify the connection.

OpenAI​

  1. Get your API key from the OpenAI Platform.
  2. Paste it into the OpenAI API Key field in the Settings Panel.
  3. Click Test to verify the connection.

Enabling Auto-Translation​

Once configured, you can enable "Automatically translate text" and choose your preferred provider. This will be used when you create new language versions in the Layers Panel.

Custom Translation Instructions​

You can add your own instructions that are sent along with every translation request. This is a great way to control tone, keep brand names untranslated, or give the AI context specific to your project.

To use it:

  1. Check "Custom translation instructions" in the Automation settings.
  2. Enter your instructions in the text field. For example: Keep brand names untranslated. Use a formal tone.

Your instructions apply to every translation AE Sheets makes: auto-translating on version creation, batch-creating versions, and translating a single layer from the main table.
